Food Research Lab (FRL), a unit of Guires, is proud to lead an initiative to raise the quality and market readiness of agricultural products in Tamil Nadu. On 14 July 2023, the FRL team met officials of the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business at the Commissionerate in Chennai to present a roadmap for making the state's agricultural produce ready for domestic and international markets.
Our aim is clear: to strengthen the local economy and empower Tamil Nadu's farmers to access global markets with products that buyers can trust. It is an opportunity to put our scientific expertise to work for the farming communities at the heart of the state's food system.
During the presentation, FRL showcased a portfolio of functional foods developed to address specific health concerns and diverse dietary needs. Each reflects our belief that food can be both nourishing and healing, and our commitment to formulating products that are delicious, safe, healthy and of the highest quality.
Consumers everywhere deserve food that meets stringent international standards. By helping to raise the quality, safety and consistency of agricultural products, we aim to position Tamil Nadu as a trusted source of premium produce and value-added foods in the global marketplace.
By working hand in hand with the government and local farmers, we can make Tamil Nadu a benchmark for quality in agribusiness on the global stage.
A central proposal was a digital knowledge-sharing platform for farmers. Through it, growers would receive specialised technical training in advanced agricultural practices, modern cultivation techniques and sustainable farming methods, putting practical, evidence-based knowledge within every farmer's reach.
Sustainability runs through our approach. FRL also proposed converting surplus produce into value-added products, reducing food waste, making the most of every harvest and creating new income streams for farmers, in line with our commitment to eco-friendly, responsible practice.
